New naira: Old notes expire Jan 31, no extended deadline – Emefiele

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on Tuesday insisted that the closing date for the brand new naira notes could now no longer be changed.

Emefiele pressured that the January 21, 2023 closing date is sacrosanct.

“No, we can now no longer shift any closing date, what we've got achieved isn't always towards the law; it’s in tandem with the law.

“We introduced this programme on October 26, 2022, and we stated upon launch of the brand new foreign money, the criminal smooth fame will run simultaneously with the vintage foreign money until 31 January 2023.

“That is sort of a hundred hundred days, a hundred days is sufficient for any character in any a part of Nigeria to deposit his cash withinside the financial institution and get equipped to withdraw coins while the brand new notes are released,” the Central Bank governor explained.
